Freyr: The Mecca of Belgian Climbing

Commissioned by the NKBV (Royal Dutch Mountaineering and Climbing Association), this film takes a deep dive into Freyr, widely regarded as the most prestigious and challenging climbing area in Belgium. Situated along the Meuse river, the majestic limestone spires of Freyr offer a world-class vertical playground that has defined generations of climbers.

Working on this film with Tess, Harald, Regien, Titus, Bea, and David was a highlight of my early work with the NKBV. It was the perfect opportunity to bring my technical DP background into the field.

I’m especially grateful to Harald Swen for teaching me the essential safety and rope techniques to operate in this environment. Filming from a hanging position offers a perspective you simply can’t get from the ground.
